Upper Shore Aging – A Voice for Seniors
Mission
Upper Shore Aging provides programs that enable seniors in Caroline, Kent, and Talbot counties to live healthy, rewarding, independent lives in their own homes.
Vision
An Upper Shore where seniors live in familiar surroundings with respect, independence, and purpose.
History
Upper Shore Aging, Inc. is an outgrowth of the Older American Act of 1965 and has undergone several transformations since Maryland established its Office on Aging in 1973. Starting out as a Community Action Agency, Upper Shore Aging, Inc. was officially formed in March of 1975 with a service area that included all 5 upper shore counties and was fully converted into an Area Agency on Aging on October 1, 1979. During the 1980s, Queen Annes and Cecil counties decided to assume the responsibilities of administering their own aging programs, reducing Upper Shore Aging’s service area to three counties. Today, Upper Shore Aging serves more than 31,000 seniors living in Caroline, Kent, and Talbot counties with 17 comprehensive programs designed to enable seniors to thrive at home rather than entering nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
Who We Are
Upper Shore Aging is one of 19 Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) that administer state and federal programs under the supervision of the Maryland Department of Aging (MDoA). Every county in the state of Maryland is mandated to have an AAA to address the needs and concerns of older people at the regional and local levels.
Upper Shore Aging serves as the local AAA for Caroline, Kent, and Talbot Counties. It is more cost effective for smaller counties to combine their efforts rather than supporting their own agency.
